FAQ Protect

Protect explained

With a Protect e-bike, you can cycle with peace of mind. Your e-bike comes with a built-in GPS tracker as standard. Combine this with a data subscription and you will always know where your bike is. And thieves? They'll think twice! There is an icon on the frame indicating that a GPS is installed, but the tracker itself is, of course, invisibly concealed.

Your Protect e-bike has a built-in GPS tracker. When you buy such an e-bike, you take out a data subscription and activate it in the Gazelle app. From that moment on, you can see exactly where your e-bike is. And if you want extra security, activate the theft protection via the app. If your e-bike unexpectedly moves, you'll get an immediate alert on your phone.

A selected number of e-bikes are equipped with Gazelle Protect. On this page, you can find all the models that have this as standard. Because the GPS tracker is seamlessly built-in, it is not possible to purchase Gazelle Protect separately for another e-bike.

Yes, you can! The Gazelle app gives you useful insights into your e-bike's data, such as its live location. You can also easily activate the theft protection via the app. If your e-bike unexpectedly moves, you'll receive an immediate notification. This way, you're always up-to-date.

Yes, you can resell your Protect e-bike. Please note the following steps:

  1. Hand over the activation card or code to the buyer.

  2. Remove the e-bike from your account in the Gazelle app by clicking on 'Details' and then 'Remove bike' at the bottom.

  3. If you have a bicycle insurance policy, cancel it.

Yes, a Protect e-bike has Bluetooth. This allows the Gazelle app to give you insights into the bike's data when you are nearby.

Your smartphone must be paired once via Bluetooth. This can be done via the Bluetooth info card or by tapping 'Details > Bluetooth'. Then follow the steps via the 'Set up Bluetooth' button. Once successful, you will automatically connect when you are near your bike.

If you don't want the app to connect to your bike via Bluetooth, you can turn it off on the 'Bike' tab via 'Details > Bluetooth'.

With Gazelle Protect and Gazelle Connect, you can cycle with peace of mind. The GPS tracker? It's already built-in. The difference lies in the freedom you choose. With Connect, everything is arranged for you in the first year, including data. With Protect, you are in control from day one and can choose the data subscription that you want.

This can be seen by the icon on the bike. If there is a yellow icon with a lock and the text 'GPS-Connected', your e-bike falls under Gazelle Connect. If you only see this yellow icon without any text, it falls under Gazelle Protect.

Protect app

When your Protect e-bike is delivered, you'll receive an activation code from us, which you can use to easily add the bike to the Gazelle app. This app is available for Android and iPhone.

This app is available for Android and iPhone. You can easily check via the link what the minimum version of Android or iOS your smartphone needs for the Gazelle app.

Yes, to use all the functionalities of the Gazelle App, you need an active internet connection on your phone. Only then can you enable features such as theft protection. Without an active internet connection, you will not receive notifications.

You can add your Protect e-bike to the Gazelle app using an activation code. Follow the steps as described on the activation card and in the app.

The activation code is delivered with your Protect e-bike on a sticker behind/next to your battery (on the inside of the frame or on the tube) or as a paper activation card. Keep it safe for future use (such as re-adding your e-bike or in case of a sale). If you are missing the activation code, you can request it from Gazelle customer service.

Sometimes certain data in the app may differ slightly because they are an approximation. It can also happen that if your e-bike has been stationary for a long time, the module has too little battery charge to send new data. Our tip: fully charge your e-bike, change your assistance level, and go for a short ride. After a few minutes, the new data should be visible again in your app.

Your e-bike is visible on the map in the Gazelle app and sends its location every four minutes during active use. This can cause the displayed location to deviate slightly from reality. If the e-bike is switched off, the last signal is shown. If the location is off, check when the last signal was sent. You can see this under 'Settings' and then 'Bike' in the app. If the battery charge is low due to prolonged non-use, you will not see any location data. As soon as there is sufficient battery charge, your e-bike will reappear on the map!

You can continue cycling, as a Protect e-bike also works without using the app. You will only no longer receive notifications if your e-bike unexpectedly moves.

You can always choose to stop using the Gazelle app. But be aware: you will miss out on the handy benefits, such as notifications for movement and insights into your bike's data.

Want extra security when you park your e-bike? You can secure your e-bike via the security button in the Gazelle app. You will receive a notification if your e-bike is moved.

Theft protection works with the motion sensor in the module. You can see how this works for your e-bike in the app via 'Details' on the 'Bike' tab.

The activation code is supplied with your Protect e-bike. You will find it on a sticker behind/next to your battery (on the inside of the frame or on the tube) or as a paper activation card. Keep it safe for future use (for example, if you want to add your e-bike again or sell it). If you are missing the activation code, you can request it from Gazelle customer service. With this code, you can easily add your Protect e-bike to the Gazelle app. Follow the steps in the app and on the card, and you'll be ready to enjoy all the benefits!

Yes, you can easily add multiple Protect e-bikes to one Gazelle app account. On the 'Bike' tab, simply tap the blue plus sign and follow the steps.

Please note, it is not possible to add one Protect e-bike to multiple Gazelle app accounts. However, it is possible to log in on multiple smartphones with the same Gazelle app account. You will then immediately see all previously added e-bikes.

Yes, you can always share your e-bike with family or friends. If they also want to use the Gazelle app, they can download the app on their own smartphone and log in with your details.

With theft protection, you will receive a notification when your e-bike is moved. On Android, you can choose the sound of this notification yourself. On iOS, you can choose between the sound of a bicycle bell, a horn, or a police siren. Important: grant the app permission for notifications and make sure your smartphone is not in silent or 'Do Not Disturb' mode. This way, you'll always hear when something happens!

The GPS tracker is advanced and has its own smaller battery, which is connected to the e-bike system. This means the GPS tracker will continue to work even if the e-bike is turned off or the e-bike's battery is dead. A fully charged battery lasts at least 10 days and is charged when the e-bike is on. This way, your bike is safe even when it is off or the e-bike's battery is dead.

The smart battery of the Protect e-bikes' GPS tracker not only charges when the e-bike's battery is being charged, but also when the e-bike is simply turned on. So when you go for a ride, your GPS tracker's battery will charge up again. Smart energy!

Yes, to use all the functionalities of the Gazelle App, you need an active internet connection on your phone. Only then can you enable features such as theft protection. Without an active internet connection, it is not possible to receive a notification if your e-bike is moved.

Data subscription

You need a data subscription to see the location of your e-bike and receive notifications when the bike is moved.

There are also some functions that you can already use in the app without a data subscription, such as viewing your last known battery percentage or the contact details of your Gazelle dealer.

  • 1 year: £34.95

  • Renewal is £34.95 per year.

As soon as your data subscription expires, certain functions in the Gazelle app will stop working. For example, you will no longer be able to use real-time tracking or theft protection, as these require an active data connection.

You can easily renew your data subscription for a period of 12 months. Approximately 30 days before your subscription expires, you will automatically receive a notification in the app. From that moment on, you can immediately purchase a new one.

If you do not renew the subscription within 6 months, the app will disable the functions that require a data connection. After that, renewal is unfortunately no longer possible, and your data connection and GPS tracker will be permanently deactivated. This cannot be undone.

You will receive a notification in the Gazelle app 30 days in advance.

No, your subscription does not renew automatically. You must always confirm a renewal yourself via the Gazelle app.

  1. Wait until you receive a notification that your data subscription is about to expire.

  2. Open the Gazelle app on your smartphone.

  3. Go to the app's home screen and tap the notification.

  4. Follow the on-screen steps to renew your subscription.
